Opening

Welcome. We are gathered today, to celebrate with (Insert first names of couple) and to witness the renewal of a marriage.  This wondrous and joyful occurrence began (insert number of  years) years ago when (Insert first names of couple) first pledged their love and commitment to each other.

Each of you promised to love, honor, and comfort. You pledged to be by each other’s side in sickness and in health, through sorrow and joy for the rest of your lives. You have done all of those things, and together you created a home, a family, and a life.

Marriage is a supreme sharing of experience, and an adventure and one of the most intimate of human relationships. This marriage has been the joyous union of two people whose friendship, patience and trust has flourished through happy as well as stormy times. You have created a life filled with memories, have raised a family, and have done so much more known only to you. And here you are ready to do it again.

Reading:  Our Marriage

By Mary E Spies

I have loved one person with all my heart, my body, my mind. I have loved you to the depths of my soul.

You have been a friend and lover; someone whom I have trusted with the intimacies of me, knowing you wouldn’t judge me or hold me back. You have loved me when I was unlikable, have seen and appreciated my inner child, and you have never doubted our life together.

I have laid in the warmth of your arms, knowing you thank God for me and knowing how blessed I am to have you beside me.

Our marriage has meant growing in love and in friendship. With all of its ups and downs, our marriage is an achievement to be proud of.

We have each taken responsibility for this marriage and together we have created a family and a good life.  I’m still falling in love with you, and after (Insert number of years) years I’m still happy to be sharing my life with you.

Vows  optional: original marriage vows may be used

(Insert number of years) years ago, I took you, to be my lawful husband/wife, to have and to hold, from that day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. This day I re-affirm that vow with all my love.

Benediction

Our hearts are filled with such great happiness as you come before us today renewing your marriage vows. May you remain ever true, loving and living together in peace and harmony. May your hearts be tempered with kindness and understanding and may all grudges or petty jealousies be lost. May your marriage remain fresh; May you each be the other’s sweetheart, best friend and partner. May romance never leave; May you continue to face the world together. May the family you have created continue to be filled with love and harmony and be but a heartbeat away.

Pronouncement

In so much as you have this day reaffirmed your vows and your love for each other I declare with great pleasure your vows renewed. May the joy and happiness you knew on your wedding day be with you today and all your tomorrows.
